Sonitrol Donates Security System to Fort Worth School
OR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Introduces 'Safe Schools' Program to Help Improve Security at K-12 Schools
Westlake, TX, Jan. 12, 2006 - Sonitrol, the leading
provider of verified electronic security solutions for businesses and
schools nationwide, today announced it has donated surveillance
equipment, service and other resources to the Maude I. Logan Elementary
School in Fort Worth as part of its Safe Schools program to help
schools combat crime, maximize overall security and promote the safest
possible learning environment.
Under the Sonitrol Safe Schools program, the Maude I. Logan
Elementary School has been equipped with free audio detection
surveillance and managed access control security services for a full
school year. The program also includes a special resource guide,
including recommended strategies for how school officials, working
together with faculty, parents, students, law enforcement and community
leaders can maximize school security.
The audio intrusion system is designed to make the elementary school
even safer than before through the use of advanced audio sensors,
strategically placed throughout the school to detect any unauthorized
activity. The managed access control feature further enhances security
with an automated door control system that provides a single access
point of entrance for visitors.
"The Sonitrol Safe Schools program is a proactive response to
potential acts of vandalism, theft or other forms of violence in
schools by protecting students as well as the physical plant during
daytime and evening hours," said Sonitrol President Alex Gellman.
"Because a key characteristic of safe, effective schools is an
environment that is positive and inclusive, the program also includes a
toolkit with strategies for creating an overall safer school
environment. We are proud to make these resources available to the
Maude I. Logan Elementary School."
"The Fort Worth Independent School District has always taken safety
and security very seriously, and we are pleased to accept the
installation of this system at Maude I. Logan Elementary," said Walter
Dansby, Deputy Superintendent. "We appreciate Sonitrol's help in
ensuring a positive environment for teaching and learning."
"The Fort Worth Police Department has partnered with the Fort Worth
Independent School District for years as part of our School Security
Initiative, fostering safe and secure schools," said Captain Bryan
Sudan, Fort Worth Police Department - East Division Commander. "As a
police department, our mission is to work in partnership with the
community and create a safe environment for all. We appreciate Sonitrol
for its interest in contributing to our ongoing efforts with the
donation of their security system for the Maude I. Logan Elementary
School."
Why the Sonitrol System Works
When Sonitrol's
unique audio detection system is activated, specially trained operators
monitor the live transmissions and report any abnormal activity to the
police, giving law enforcement the intelligence they need to make an
apprehension. In 2004, 47% of all police apprehensions resulting from
Sonitrol monitoring efforts occurred at schools, primarily outside of
regular school hours.
With the company's access control system,
schools can limit access to the building as well as theft-prone areas
such as computer rooms, science laboratories and administrative offices.
The Sonitrol Safe Schools program is designed to assist school
administrators, school boards, parents, police, students and neighbors
in promoting safety and security in K-12 schools nationwide. The
program includes an alliance with Sonitrol, including free audio
detection surveillance and access control security services for a
school for a full school year, a Safe Schools Resource Guide, access to
nationally recognized experts on school safety, as well as tools for
performing a school security analysis.
