Media Spotlight on Sonitrol
(September 15, 2004) We would like to share with
you the following two mentions of Sonitrol published in the September
issues of Security Systems News and Security Sales & Integration
magazine and also posted on their respective web sites.
The first one, "Security system alarm ends Commercial robbery
attempt," highlights an apprehension made at Battery Warehouse in
Dover, Delaware as a result of our impact-activated audio verified
alarm. This apprehension made "The Right Response" column which
regularly features a story showcasing a security or life safety system
that proved to save lives and/or property during an incident. It's no
surprise that Sonitrol is often featured in this particular column!
The second article, "ADT Answers Its Critics," features an
interesting, one-on-one interview with Mike Snyder, president of ADT.
The Q&A format was created by Security Sales & Integration.
Near the end of the interview, an interesting question was asked by the
interviewer, "Why did Tyco recently sell off its very successful
Sonitrol business?" Read what Snyder had to say!

The Right Response
Security system alarm ends Commercial robbery attempt
DOVER, Del. - After dealing with a number of break-ins over a
six-month period, the Battery Warehouse of Dover enlisted the services
of Sonitrol of Delaware. Shortly thereafter, Sonitrol received a verified audio impact-activated alarm from the battery retailer.
On May 30, Carmen Roque, a Sonitrol operator, notified Dover City
Police Dispatch. Roque told the police that she heard banging noises at
the location and what sounded like a metal pipe being dropped.
At the same time the customer was alerted of the disturbance and
informed to meet the police at the business, the responding officers
first discovered a broken window and later the perpetrator inside the
store.
Realizing that the police were present, the intruder attempted to
flee with stolen batteries. But, the police apprehended the individual
after a short chase.
According to media reports, the police arrested a local teenager and charged the individual.
In this column, Security Sysems News will periodically feature a
story where a security or life safety system did its job to save life
or property. To submit a story for consideration, send us an email at editor@securitysystemsnews.com with details.

ADT Answers Its Critics
by Scott Goldfine, Editor
Security Sales & Integration: Why did Tyco recently sell off its very successful Sonitrol business?
Mike Snyder: Tyco was being called upon by Wall Street to restore
faith in its operations, as far as governance and transparency are
concerned. Sonitrol is a franchise-based organization that cannot be
told how to operate in certain markets. We made a decision that it
would be in the best interest of the 150 or so Sonitrol franchises to
sell them off. We realized it just was not going to work; it was too
big of a conflict. They did not want to be integrated or folded into
ADT operations.
